Gold-standard autism diagnosis — ADOS-2 & ADI-R

Our autism assessments use the two most internationally recognised instruments: the ADOS-2 (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule) and the ADI-R (Autism Diagnostic Interview — Revised). Together, these provide the most comprehensive and clinically validated autism diagnostic pathway available outside of a hospital setting.

The assessment spans multiple elements — a structured observation session, a detailed clinical interview, and where applicable, a collateral interview with a family member or partner who knew you in childhood. This multi-source approach is what distinguishes a gold-standard assessment from a checklist.

You will receive a comprehensive written report appropriate for employers, universities, the NHS, legal purposes, and EHCP applications.

What the assessment covers

ADOS-2 structured observation (Module appropriate to your age and language)
ADI-R developmental interview (with a person who knew you in childhood)
Social communication and interaction differences
Restricted and repetitive patterns of behaviour
Sensory processing profile
Flexible versus rigid thinking styles
Special interests and their role in your life
Camouflaging and masking — especially relevant for women and girls
Co-occurring conditions screening (ADHD, anxiety, dyslexia)
Impact on daily life, work, education, and relationships

A note on late diagnosis and masking

Many adults — particularly women, girls, and people from minority ethnic backgrounds — go undiagnosed for decades because they have learned to mask or camouflage autistic traits. Our assessors are trained specifically to identify masked presentations. A late diagnosis is never "too late" — it can be life-changing at any age.

ASD Assessment FAQs

Absolutely. There is no upper age limit for an autism diagnosis. Many adults are diagnosed in their 30s, 40s, 50s and beyond — often after a child's diagnosis prompts reflection on their own experiences.
The ADOS-2 (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition) is a structured assessment involving a series of social interactions and activities. It is considered the gold standard for autism diagnosis worldwide.
For the ADI-R portion, we ideally need someone who knew you well in childhood — a parent, sibling, or long-term partner. If this is not possible, we can discuss alternative approaches.
Yes. Our assessors are specifically trained to identify autism in women, girls, and non-binary people, including masked and camouflaged presentations that are often missed by less experienced clinicians.
The core diagnostic tools are the same. The difference is waiting time (days vs years), the depth of the process, the quality of the written report, and the post-diagnosis support we provide.
